Full descriptionSteam locomotive and passenger train at Barnham Junction. General view of a steam locomotive with guard's van and three passenger carriages standing at Barnham Junction station on the opening of the Bognor branch line of the London Brighton and South Coast Railway in June 1864. Two men stand in the locomotive's cab in front of the coal tender. Guard's van has observation window above the roof. Three carriages left-to-right first, second and third class have different windows indicatiing different widths of each compartment. Station workers in uniform stand to the left of the locomotive. Station buildings and platform with canopy in background. The locomotive is No.29 ESCUS, built 1843 (Sharp) 2-2-2 with 5 foot 6 inch driving wheel. L000097a is a detail of L000097.
