Full description | Market Cross, Chichester (built 1501). 1749 Engraving of West Front. Decorated in High Gothic style. Plaque above and inscribed: 'This beautiful cross erected by Edward Story Bishop of Chichester who was advanced to that dignity by Edward the IV MCCCCLXXV was first repaired in the reign of Charles II and now again in the twentyeth year of our present sovereign George II MDCCXLVI Thomas Wall Mayor at the sole expence of Charles Duke of Richmond Lenox and Aubigny'. Above the drawing is a roundel depicting the floor plan. Engraving by G. Vertue from a drawing by William Ride.
