In background centre left is the Town Hall (also known as the Guildhall), built in the late 13th century as the church for the Greyfriars. To the right of the town hall is Admiral Frankland's House. Spire of Chichester Cathedral on distant skyline at left. Published in Excursions Through Sussex 1 November 1819, the engraving is titled "The Priory, Chichester, The Seat of I. H. Frankland Esqr." |
